Health Plan Switch Leaves Deceased Soldier’s Daughters Without Benefits

by Kaia

A heart-wrenching situation has unfolded in Ontario, as a grandmother struggles to secure the medical benefits rightfully due to her granddaughters, whose father, a deceased Canadian military veteran, should have entitled them to these crucial provisions.

Gloria Timothy, a 66-year-old widow and retiree residing in Windsor, has been the primary caregiver for her granddaughters, Destiny, 19, and Alexsis, 15, for nearly six years. However, a sudden and unexpected obstacle has arisen in their quest to access essential medical benefits.

The tragic backstory lies in Gloria’s son-in-law, Stefan Jankowski, who harbored a lifelong dream of serving as a soldier. Tragically, Stefan’s life was cut short in July 2011, succumbing to a prescription drug overdose after returning from active duty in Afghanistan, where he had developed post-traumatic stress disorder. This heartbreaking loss has had profound implications for his surviving family members, most notably his daughters, who should rightfully have had access to the support they need.
