In his capacity as the Dean, Professor Teo Yik Ying delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of adopting a forward-looking and solution-oriented approach when confronting public health challenges. Asia currently finds itself most vulnerable to sweeping global mega-trends, including an aging population, rapid urbanization, and the far-reaching consequences of a changing climate, all of which present substantial threats to health security. These challenges unfold against the backdrop of an ongoing pandemic era, marked by the looming possibility of recurrent infectious disease outbreaks. Within this context, it becomes evident that the most substantial health burden falls upon those grappling with underlying chronic diseases.
