Hannahville Indian Community’s New Health Clinic Nears Completion

by Kaia

The Hannahville Indian Community’s new health clinic and government services building is approaching completion, over a year after breaking ground. The community began construction in June 2023, initially expecting the project to be finished by November. However, Tribal Council Chairperson Kenneth Meshigaud now anticipates receiving the keys to the facility on September 1.

“We’re really excited,” Meshigaud said.

Planning for the new building took about a year and a half. Now, final touches are being added to the 56,000-square-foot center, located east of the Potawatomi Heritage Center. The facility will house tribal courts, a food pantry, tribal government offices, and a health, dental, and vision center.

“We decided to consolidate all of the services we provide to the tribal membership and the Potawatomi community into one location to make it easier to access services,” Meshigaud explained.

Although the building might be completed ahead of schedule, Meshigaud noted that the exact opening date is still being determined. Coordinating various departments is complex, but Meshigaud is confident in the efforts of his team to make it happen.

Health Director Susie Meshigaud highlighted the importance of the new facility, mentioning future expansion plans. “We have recently added optical services for certain groups within our community and plan to extend these services to others,” she said.

The building is financed through health center revenue and various grants. One of the goals for the new center is to offer additional services, such as x-rays and mammography.

“The new facility allows us to expand our services and better meet the needs of our citizens and community members. It also provides more space to improve our current services, such as dental care,” she added.

The center will increase the number of exam rooms in its medical and dental facilities and is equipped to offer pediatric dental services in the future.

Community reactions have been mixed, but there has been considerable enthusiasm about the new building. “People are excited to see it finished and operational,” Meshigaud said.

Miron Construction Co. managed the construction, while ISG served as the architect. The center is located at N15756 Hannahville B-1 Road.
