The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission reported that the health of a seriously ill Palestinian detainee from Tulkarm in Israeli jails is rapidly declining, describing his case as one of the most challenging medical situations in Israeli occupation prisons.
Motasim Raddad, 42, suffers from severe intestinal infections and bleeding, causing a significant drop in his blood pressure. He experiences frequent fainting episodes, along with high blood pressure, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, severe back and joint pain.
Raddad undergoes monthly injections, requiring frequent transfers between Ofer prison near Ramallah and Ramla hospital near Tel Aviv in Israel. However, due to intense pain during transport in the prison vehicle known as al-Bosta, and mistreatment by prison forces (Nachshon), he has opted to stop treatment.
The Commission’s lawyer stated he has been unable to meet with Raddad due to his critical health condition, with the last meeting occurring on February 25. During this time, Raddad was frequently moved between hospitals.
Since the onset of Israeli aggression on Gaza, Raddad was moved from Ramla hospital back to Ofer prison, resulting in a severe deterioration of his health. He was housed in substandard conditions without adequate medication, food, clothes, or blankets. The Israeli prison authorities deliberately delayed his treatment until his condition worsened significantly before transferring him to a hospital.
Raddad, detained since 2006 and serving a 20-year sentence, sustained numerous shrapnel injuries during his arrest. His health has continued to deteriorate during his imprisonment, spending much of his time in the Ramla prison clinic.
