by Kaia

In an upcoming episode of Senator Bernie Sanders’s podcast, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed her view on the state of health care in the United States, labeling it as “barbarism.”

Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the significant challenges many Americans face due to the high costs of health care and housing, emphasizing the tough choices they must make. She reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for progressive change.

Speaking in a preview of the podcast episode set for Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez condemned the situation where individuals are forced to choose between medical treatment and paying rent, terming it as barbaric. She also pointed out the fear and uncertainty people experience about their health due to financial constraints preventing them from seeking medical attention.

She stressed the urgent need to push for improvements, stating that failure to do so would result in condemning society to barbarism. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized her refusal to accept such a future and her determination to fight for a better life for all.

Both Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders have been prominent figures in progressive politics and played significant roles in the early stages of the Biden administration, particularly in passing progressive measures like the Inflation Reduction Act. This act included provisions such as capping insulin costs at $35 for Medicare beneficiaries and enabling Medicare to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies. Both politicians are vocal supporters of “Medicare for All” legislation.

Sanders launched the podcast about two months ago, coinciding with the release of his book, “It’s OK to Be Angry about Capitalism.”
