Baptist Health, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, has announced a definitive agreement to include Drew Memorial Health System, located in Monticello, within its healthcare system. The acquisition, pending customary regulatory approvals, will involve Baptist Health taking over the general operations of Drew Memorial Health System during the interim period.
In December, Baptist Health is set to officially incorporate Drew Memorial Health System, which encompasses a 60-bed hospital, two clinics, and a home health service. The Monticello hospital will then become Baptist Health’s 12th hospital and bear the name “Baptist Health Medical Center-Drew County.”
Troy Wells, President and CEO of Baptist Health, explained the context of the acquisition, noting that independent community hospitals are increasingly seeking system partnerships in today’s challenging healthcare landscape. Baptist Health has a history of efficiently operating rural hospitals, ensuring their viability while delivering quality healthcare to underserved regions in the state.
Drew Memorial Health System, situated in Monticello, employs approximately 350 individuals and provides a range of services, including a cancer and infusion center, emergency department, wound center, rehabilitation therapy, respiratory therapy, women’s services, a sleep center, radiology, and laboratory services, among others.
Scott Barrilleaux, CEO for Drew County Memorial Hospital, expressed excitement about the merger and the opportunity to join forces with the esteemed Baptist Health team. This collaboration aims to enhance the quality of healthcare available to Drew County and the surrounding communities.
During the period from October until the December acquisition, efforts will focus on minimizing disruptions to operations and ensuring a seamless transition, according to a joint press release from the two hospitals.
