Local Charity Offers Free Educational Beach Sessions with South West Water Support

by Kaia

A local charity in Bude is providing free educational beach sessions that include environmental games, learning activities, and coastal habitat exploration. This initiative is made possible by the support of South West Water.

The 2 Minute Foundation launched their 2 Minute Beach School in 2021. The program aims to offer a unique learning experience, teaching participants about the marine environment and the ocean’s role in climate change. These sessions cater to various audiences, from pre-school to secondary students, as well as after-school youth groups, holiday clubs, and families looking to connect with their local community.

Josie Dean, Partnerships Manager at The 2 Minute Foundation, stated: “The 2 Minute Beach School is about learning and understanding the natural ocean world around us. This knowledge can be shared with others, amplifying our core message: we can all play our part to protect ocean health. Thanks to South West Water’s Neighbourhood Fund, we can teach 1,500 children about simple actions that can lead to real, impactful change.”

One parent-carer from The 2 Minute Beach School shared: “My children are now more aware of single-use plastic and recycling at home. They even ask to clean the beach, picking up fishing rope and plastic rubbish to protect the environment.”

Dani Twelvetree, Head of Customer Communication and Engagement at South West Water, commented: “Charities like The 2 Minute Foundation do fantastic work locally in Bude and across the country. We are delighted to support such a great initiative.”

South West Water’s Neighbourhood Fund partners with local community groups and charities, promoting physical activities, education, health and wellbeing, and positive environmental outcomes within the South West region.
