by Kaia

The health condition of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remains stable, according to a senior official from the state administration on Friday. Banerjee, aged 69, sustained significant injuries to her forehead and nose after falling inside her residence in Kalighat, South Kolkata, on Thursday evening. However, the official stated that she “slept well” and was closely monitored by senior doctors throughout the night.

“There will be another assessment of her condition this morning,” the official informed PTI.

Following necessary medical tests at the hospital, Banerjee received three stitches on her forehead and one on her nose before being discharged. According to Manimoy Bandyopadhyay, director of SSKM Hospital, where she was treated, Banerjee suffered a cerebral concussion and had a deep cut on her forehead and nose, which required immediate attention. Various investigations, including ECG, echocardiogram, CT-Scan, and Doppler, were conducted to ensure her well-being.

While police have yet to file a complaint regarding the incident, security measures have been heightened in and around Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. Referring to the SSKM Hospital’s bulletin stating that Banerjee fell “due to some push,” the police officer declined to comment on plans to record her statement or initiate any complaint independently.

“As of now, no complaint has been lodged in connection with the fall of the CM. We have increased security around the CM’s residence,” the officer mentioned to PTI, indicating a review of potential security lapses.

Banerjee is under a “Z+ category” security cover and is provided with a dedicated team of officers for her protection, both at her residence and during public appearances.
