Memorial Health System Athens Medical Campus Expansion Underway

by Kaia

Athens is set to witness a significant development in healthcare services as Memorial Health System progresses with the construction of its new Athens Medical Campus. The project, which started deliveries of over 200 modules on October 9, is poised to open its doors in the upcoming spring.

Memorial Health System’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services and specialties in Athens and the surrounding areas has spurred the creation of this cutting-edge facility. Employing Smart Off-Site construction methods, MODLOGIQ, a leader in off-site construction, has been diligently constructing the facility in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Subsequently, these modules will be delivered to the Columbus Road site in Athens for assembly.

Scott Cantley, President, and CEO of Memorial Health System, expressed enthusiasm about opening the system’s fifth emergency room, the second being freestanding, in Athens. The expansion aims to provide the community with local access to exceptional healthcare services. Not only will this benefit patients, but it will also create additional job opportunities for healthcare professionals in the region, fostering economic growth.

The adoption of innovative construction methods has allowed the rapid delivery of vital healthcare services to the community, ensuring quicker access than conventional construction. Furthermore, it contributes to reduced construction costs, ultimately helping to mitigate healthcare expenses.

This construction project represents a commitment to sustainability, with a greener construction approach that will prevent 400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and recycle 230 tons of construction materials, reducing landfill waste. As the modules are transported 475 miles from New Holland to Athens, they come in various sizes, with the heaviest weighing 62,000 pounds, reflecting the innovative approach taken in the construction of the largest permanent healthcare facility in North America using Smart Off-Site construction.
