This amber-level alert signifies that weather-related impacts are anticipated to have a notable effect on the entire healthcare system. It has been issued due to a projected temperature surge that is expected to surpass 30°C (86°F), as indicated by the country’s meteorological department.

The official statement issued by UKHSA cautioned, “At this level, we may begin to see some health impacts across the wider population, and an increase in risk to health for individuals aged over 65 years or those with pre-existing health conditions, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.”

Agostinho Sousa, the head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, emphasized the importance of taking sensible precautions while enjoying the sun. He advised, “We urge you to check on older family members, friends, or neighbors, especially those with heart or lung conditions.”

As the nation faces this heatwave, staying informed and taking necessary measures to protect vulnerable individuals remains paramount to ensuring public health and safety.
