TikTok’s Cucumber Guy Sparks Viral Health Trend: Is It Safe to Eat Cucumbers Every Day?

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok lately, you’ve probably encountered the latest viral star: the Cucumber Guy. Known by his handle @Logagm, this influencer isn’t just slicing and eating a whole cucumber every day—he’s getting the entire internet to join in on the trend. But while munching on veggies seems like a no-brainer for healthy living, it raises an important question: Can too much of a good thing be bad?

We reached out to nutrition expert Carolina Schneider, MS, RD, who advises for Daily Harvest, to weigh in. The verdict? Cucumbers are not only safe but also healthy for regular consumption.

Why Are Cucumbers Healthy?

It looks like TikTok might have found the right trendsetter this time. Cucumbers are loaded with nutrients, including vitamin K for bone strength, vitamin C for immunity, and essential minerals like potassium and magnesium. Plus, they’re extremely low in calories—a whole cup contains just 18 calories.

“They also contain antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress in the body,” says Schneider. “A diet rich in vegetables is linked to improved health outcomes, a reduced risk of diseases, and overall better well-being.”

For those following Logan’s “Cucumber of the Day” (COTD) videos—and participating by tossing sliced cucumbers into a shakeable salad—there are some notable benefits. Cucumbers are 95% water, so they boost hydration, improve digestion thanks to their fiber content, and even have anti-inflammatory properties that can enhance skin health. As a low-calorie, high-water food, they may also support weight loss, Schneider explains.

Cucumbers’ potassium content helps regulate blood pressure by balancing sodium levels, promoting better heart health. Additionally, the antioxidants in cucumbers offer protection against chronic diseases.

Veronica Rouse, MAN, RD, CD, a heart health specialist, agrees with the benefits. “Adding a cucumber to your daily routine can help you meet the USDA’s recommendation of five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Many people fall short on their vegetable intake, so incorporating a cucumber is an easy and delicious way to boost it,” she told Well+Good.

Can You Eat Too Many Cucumbers?

Despite their many health perks, Schneider warns that eating cucumbers in excessive amounts can have drawbacks. “Their high water and fiber content may cause digestive discomfort if consumed in large quantities,” she explains. For individuals not accustomed to a fiber-rich diet, this could result in bloating, gas, or even diarrhea due to the fiber’s effect on stimulating bowel movements.

Schneider also emphasizes the importance of variety in your diet. “Eating a wide range of fruits and vegetables ensures that you’re getting a diverse array of nutrients and health benefits,” she says.

While adding a cucumber to your daily meals is a great choice, it’s crucial to balance your diet with protein, healthy fats, and other vitamins and minerals not found in cucumbers. Fortunately, there are plenty of delicious recipes to help you maintain that balance.

In short, cucumbers are a nutrient-packed addition to your diet, but like everything, moderation and variety are key to staying healthy.
