Crozer Health to End Operating Room Services at Taylor Hospital by September 1

by Kaia

Crozer Health, the four-hospital network in Delaware County, will close all operating room services at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park by September 1.

A spokesperson for Crozer Health, which is experiencing financial difficulties, did not respond to requests for comment.

This move is part of a broader effort by Crozer’s parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings, to sell the health system to New Jersey-based CHA Partners. In February, Prospect agreed to a court-approved plan to complete the sale within 270 days.

The agreement with the attorney general’s office began in October 2023, following Crozer’s suspension of essential services, unpaid bills, and staff layoffs. These issues have persisted.

With Delaware County Memorial and Springfield hospitals essentially closed, this latest development further complicates Crozer’s ongoing sale negotiations.

In June, Crozer lost its attempt to maintain its surgical residency program after it had already lost its accreditation.

Delaware County Council had enacted an ordinance in April 2022, requiring hospitals to provide a 180-day notice before closing a ward or hospital.

Taylor Hospital, founded in 1910 by Dr. Horace Furness Taylor and his wife Katherine, began as a personal initiative in their home.

Prospect acquired the Crozer-Keystone Health System in 2016. The for-profit company, which owns hospitals across California, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, has struggled with its properties nationwide.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha has filed a motion to hold Prospect in contempt for failing to pay $17 million in overdue bills.
